Past Events

We have had many exciting events happening here at Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home. We celebrated National Nursing Home Week May 11-17, 2008. Our theme this year was "Love is Ageless". We kicked the week off with Mother's Day celebration on Sunday; the resident's celebrated with a tea and refreshment. They also had their photo taken with family members and a carnation was given as a gift. On Monday, we had our Balloon Lift Off with Jason Gunter performing. It was also our red, white, and blue day. Our thanks goes out to Mr. Fred Hamic for coming and signing our proclamation to start off our Nursing Home Week.

We had a Luau and many thanks goes out to Covenant Hospice for sponsoring our tent this year. This day was "dress Hawaiian day" and we had the G-Town Twirlers to entertain us that evening. On Wednesday, we had homemade ice cream day and we dressed country-western for this day. Thursday was a hit with our Employee cook out where we wore our Nursing Home Week t-shirts. That night was the Ms. Wiregrass Nursing Home pageant and Ms. Edith Mauldin was crowned our 2008 queen. Friday we wrapped up the week with "dress wacky day" and the Happy Time Singers, from the Geneva Senior Citizens Center, performed for us. We all had a ball and look forward to celebrating next year!!!!

On August 5th, we traveled to Birmingham with Ms. Edith Mauldin and her daughter to the state pageant. It was an eventful time. We enjoyed shopping at the Galleria Mall and eating at nice restaurants. We spent the night in the Winfrey Hotel and prepared for the big day. Ms. Mauldin really enjoyed the time there and meeting new people. It was an experience she "will never forget", she stated.

On August 9th, Ms. Blance Reese celebrated her 101st birthday. She had a party in the main dining room complete with a birthday cake and other refreshments.

We are excited about our new activities room. We have remodeled the previous 300 hall dining room and made it our activities room. It is freshly painted with new décor. In this room will be a sitting area where resident's can come and sit to watch a movie or television on the love seat or rock in the rocking chairs. For our more energetic residents, they can come in and play dominoes or put puzzles together on the tables provided. They can even play air hockey on our new air hockey table. We were graciously donated a beautiful record player that plays records, cd's or tapes. It was donated by Ann Whiston who is a resident here at our home, and the resident's have rally enjoyed listening to old classics and country music. This will be in the new room for them to listen to and enjoy.

We will host many activities in this area and hold our Red Hat parties there. Please come in and visit with us and play a game of dominoes or even air hockey!!!!!
